As a mixed person I genuinely don’t understand people referring to Spock in halves. Like “oh his Vulcan half doesn’t like xyz” or “his human half is crying” like. Spock isn’t a human and a Vulcan in a trench coat. He’s not secretly two people fighting to control a single body- he is one whole hybrid!!!

Spock is great representation for how being raised across two races/cultures can affect your identity, but the way a lot (most) of the characters talk to him about it, including his own family, is really disrespectful a lot of the time. Which in a way, reflects the mixed experience (people who aren’t mixed don’t Get It) but also it’s not great for modeling how to talk to mixed people irl.

Like, I’ve had family members try to “help” remind me that “oh, you’re white too!” in the context of me talking about being Taiwanese, which is very very similar to how people feel the constant need to remind Spock that “you’re human too!”. Like, speaking from experience? Spock KNOWS he’s human too. He was reminded of it every day as a kid, he’s reminded of it when he thinks about his mom, he’s reminded of it when he looks in the mirror. He KNOWS. And people constantly telling him how to properly be a Vulcan or how to properly be a human are completely missing the point of letting Spock have his own cultural identity and his own interpretation of how to navigate his mixed heritage. (Not to mention how every culture has variability, and there’s bound to be tons of overlap between what “human” and “vulcan” behavior is to the point of just. Assigning stereotypes to Spock to act out.)
