explaining the 5 original star trek series to my friend, enthusing about TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, getting to enterprise and just

me: (sighs) (takes my glasses off) (sighs again)

me: so. the twin towers went down in 2001–

my friend: (starts laughing)

thinking about how Sarek is a really serious ambassador man but also he will just tell you unprompted how much he loves his human wife (in a statistics briefing) “my wife is a bitch and I like her so much” “yes, ambassador, but as I was saying–”

thinking about how Q is gay for Picard and highkey hot for him, but he’s NICE and GENTLE with data for absolutely no reason at all

he talks with him really bluntly and literally with no bullshit! and makes him laugh! 🥺

do you ever thinking about how literally everyone takes julian bashir’s infodumping as bragging or lecturing except Garak, who infodumps back

or how Julian never has to guess if Garak is being sarcastic or encoding a double meaning, because EVERYTHING has double meaning

and how if Garak finds that he doesn’t like Julian’s tone, he immediately tells him he doesn’t, rather than silently rolling his eyes or getting quietly irritable

and how Julian and Garak show their affection and respect for each other’s cultures and ideas by. debating them

and how when either of them DOES hurt or insult the other, they draw back and ask how they insulted so they don’t do it again? Garak does it about Julian’s age, Julian does it about Cardassia

and how Odo and Julian often work very well together even though they don’t really LIKE one another because they’re both very obstinate and linear in their thoughts - but Odo and Garak meet each other regularly for breakfast later on and are friends

i just. hhhhhhhh

i have a lot of feelings about how autistic humans respond so WELL to VULCAN communication and to CARDASSIAN communication

and its because allistic humans think cardassians and vulcans are obscure

but they’re NOT obscure. vulcans state things very bluntly, and cardassians state things very floridly, but they share in common a bluntness and directness in their communication that allistic humans often take as rude even when it’s stated it ISN’T

thinking about how Iloja of Prim, the poet, was exiled on Vulcan 👀 and feeling… Feelings

destination star trek london was really great but 3 Andy robinson things about him being Good

1. at the panel about queerness in trek, Wilson Cruz was nearly on the verge of tears describing his experiences being an out gay actor in the 90s and how important star trek is to him as a positive gay role, and then he turns to robinson and reaches to pat his knee and is like, i hope you understand how important it is how YOU talked about sexuality even in the 90s and 00s and how much it means to people like us, and then ROBINSON was nearly crying too

and in between them, blu del Barrio was wearing their t-shirt that says 100% boys years, exactly what they were surrounded by

2. Andy robinson described himself as, and i quote, “your typical cisgender male he/him” which is hilarious

3. at another panel, I put my hand up to ask a question, the moderator referred to be as a lady, and before /i/ could correct him, robinson was already correcting him off-mic, having met me yesterday

i thanked him after and he was like “oh no its nothing” and I’m just like. ur a 79 year old cis man, everyone else just saw u do that and demo the correct etiquette, it DOES matter and THANK u

anyway gays keep winning bc DST was excellent and I had a wonderful time
